Hallo Traders, :-)
i'm sure that many of you know very well these rules but last time i had
more oportunities to explain it to some friends so i decided to write it
once to spare my time (and yours as well).
The biggest problem of WinMX is in my kindly opinion the difficulty to
find again the person you were once trading. I heard the people say
it's possible to do it from various WinMX servers - via chat-rooms etc.
I tried it but never succeeded with this. Maybe i'm wrong, but for me
seems to be valid: differenr WinMX servers = different chat-rooms,
different people... Anybody who can me explain the contrary will get
the biggest file of me he would wish to ;-)
Other the OpenNap Networks - usually there is no special difficulty, to
find a person, who is on the same network as you. This can change - when
some of big OpenNaps will build the structures like WinMX, but at the
moment it works pretty good. OpenNaps have also dark sides: the are not
always avaliable, "forget" to transfer messages, save unactual sharing
lists etc. - but I had still less problems to keep contact with friends
than by WinMX.
So - for those who don't know how to use OpenNap Networks - some
instructions (refering to WinMX 3.31 client):
1) Because you can read this, you just have DL my zip-file and have
the file PUBLIC ..... (long number).WSX in it - unzip this (if not
already happened) to any place on your HD
2) In your WinMX prog open the window "Networks" (this is a standard
WinMX login) and change to the "OpenNap Protocol Networks" (right
above - in oposition to the "WinMX Peer Network"
3) In this window select "Import WSX" - in the mini-browser which
appears browse for WSX file you just unzipped
4) If you have done all right you will get a long list servers in red
where was empty till this moment
5) Select some of the servers and click "Connect". The servers you are
connected change in green
That's all. Since you are connected to your favorite OpenNap servers
you can browse user who is connected as well, search for files etc.
F. e. you can permanently add your friends (on an especial server) to
your hotlist (which was unpossible in WinMX). What you cannot is the
mulitisource DL; to resume the file from the other source works sometime
not automatically - so you will have to learn the function "manually
download" maybe. But if you want to stay in permanent contact with
some friends - it is for me the best possibility.
Note: the WSX server's list i gave you is of course not the newest one,
but i'm pretty happy with it. You can try to find a new version using
the function "Find WSX" in the window we were working before. I'm
pretty sure you will have no difficulty with this.
Take care :-)
